Who is Andy Johns and what is The Golden Hat?

A bit about me. I’m still a noob when it comes to blogging and search marketing. But, I really enjoy both. I’m a marathon runner (for fun) so I know what it means to commit to something for the long term goal. So, I’m in this blogging and search marketing thing for the long run. Here’s a picture of me in Italy in 2007. I was there running the Florence, Italy marathon. That’s a picture of the entire perimeter of Florence. See that blue line? That’s the race path. 26.2 miles. Some say I’m sick in the head. Me….. I just like the adventure.

The Golden Hat

For those of you familiar with basic search industry lingo you’ll notice that my blog title is a play on phrases such as “white hat” and “black hat”. To me The Golden Hat means to represent the attempt at contributing to and admiring all things on the Web valuable to the digital community. The Web is a magnificent information database and I appreciate anyone who honestly contributes to it. The Golden Hat is my effort to do so. I’m headquartered in the heart of the Silicon Valley so I live and breathe this stuff.

Take a look at my wonderful office. Don’t mind the excessive clutter, giant beer mug, and terrible laptop. My life is pretty much summed up in this image though. Laptop. Marathon medals. UCLA diploma and signed poster of the UCLA basketball team. Thrift store lamp. Inhaler (stupid asthma). Uncomfortable office chair.
